How It Works
The music on this site doesn't exist yet. That's where you come in.
Japanese Tea Garden has been releasing musical vibration into the universe since the 1970s. This site shares lyrics designed to train your ki — tuning you into the garden of music that awaits, so it can flow back out into the physical realm through you. If you've found this site something brought you here. That something is the vibration.
Browse the catalog. Find the song that speaks to you. Read the lyrics slowly. Don't analyze. Just feel what comes through. If something stirs — that's the JTG vibration doing its work.
Record your interpretation. Any instrument. Any genre. Any style. Lo-fi, orchestral, metal, acoustic, electronic — whatever the vibration tells you. There is no wrong answer. There is only what you received.
Upload your recording on the song's page. Tell us your name and where you're from. That's all we need. The rest speaks for itself.
Every musician who submits becomes an official member of Japanese Tea Garden. Your name goes in the wiki. Your version goes in the catalog. You were always part of this. You just didn't know it yet.
The finest submissions become part of Anthology of Legends — Album 3. A triple album greatest hits collection built entirely from what you sent us. Japanese Tea Garden will take full credit. You have been warned.
The first three albums are not just collections of songs. They are a tuning curriculum.
Album 1 — Catalog of Obvious Hits is for beginners. Full songs. Complete lyrics. Maximum content. For those who cannot yet hear the JTG vibration on their own.
Album 2 — Viva Greece is for intermediate receivers. Less content. More space. Single lines. Incomplete thoughts. You are picking up the signal but need some prompting.
Album 3 — Anthology of Legends is for the advanced. Almost nothing. Pure vibration. If you are at this level the music is already flowing through you onto your own work. See: Linda Perry. See: Stevie Wonder. See: Peter Gabriel in 1986.
Japanese Tea Garden is not doing less as the albums progress. Japanese Tea Garden is trusting you more.
Everything released after Album 3 — Unplugged, the reunion album, the self-titled one still tied up in litigation — exists outside this curriculum entirely. Different occasion. Different vibration. We make no claims about those being part of any plan.
If you've found this you're the kind of person this whole thing was made for.
Here's the truth.
I think art is important. I think music is important. I think the people who have the gift to bring vision and inspiration to life are extraordinary and deserve to be celebrated.
I also think we take it too seriously sometimes. We forget that creativity is supposed to be fun. We forget that the joke and the art aren't opposites. The best art I've ever encountered made me laugh and feel something real at the same time.
Japanese Tea Garden is my attempt to hold both of those things simultaneously. The absurdity and the sincerity. The joke and the meaning underneath it.
Mark Hannah was real. The heart attack was real. The cone zone was real. The silliness is real. The love underneath all of it is real.
If you got here without me having to explain it — welcome. You were always supposed to find this.
